Shoal & School

去西巴丹，只有帶一本書去看，是在wakatobi購買的，叫做"Reef Life"，是發現Denise Pygmy Seahorse的Denise Nielsen Tackett以及 知名攝影師Larry Tackett所合著，這是一本珊瑚礁生物生態的詳細教科書，從最基本的生物生態，到用照片解釋各種生物在珊瑚礁裡面扮演的角色等等，都有詳細說明。

例如，關於School以及Shoal，就有詳細定義，一般我們常常說，Barracuda School或是Jackfish School，這是因為，School所指的是"A Social group of fishes,usually--but not always--of a single species,that are of approximately equal social rank and sizes and move about in the highly coordinated fashion" ，所以，barracuda可用school來說。

而Shoal(我很少見到文章有用到此字），"is a group of fish,all of the same species,that stays together for purpose for feeding,migrating,spawning,deterring predators and resting. A shoal dose not necessarily consist of individuals of the same size and social rank"，所以，早上起床覓食的隆頭鸚哥魚大族群，可稱為Shoal，但是因為有不同地位的社會性，因此不可稱為School。

不過，Shoal裡面，會分成許多小群的School。

這個作者，是生物學家，我在西巴丹，就被一些什麼Interstitial,Mangroves,Estuaries,Lagoon,Patch.....以及PHYLUM ARTHROPODS這些怪怪的東西弄得頭昏腦脹，還好，有照片可以對照，攝影，真是對人類的學習工具的一大貢獻啊～
